Turbo Studio Update 18.4 Now Available

Turbo Studio is an easy-to-use graphical editing tool for creating and editing Turbo container environments.

The latest update to Studio brings important compatibility, ease-of-use, performance, and other updates.
This update is required for compatibility with Windows 10 April 2018 update. Therefore, we strongly recommend all Turbo Studio users update immediately to Studio 18.

New and Improved

This update includes the following new features and improvements:

  • Security: Turbo Studio now uses TLS1.2 for all network communication
  • Usability: Improved automated snapshot configuration for legacy versions of Microsoft Office, including Microsoft Office 2010, and SAP GUI
  • Forward compatibility: Universal CRT binaries are automatically moved to a pre-Windows 10 layer during the snapshot process, allowing builds on early OSs to run properly on Windows 10
  • Local repositories: New Import for standalone deployment option automatically applies isolation settings appropriate for local repository images
  • Performance: New rules for automatically trimming unnecessary files during the snapshot process result in smaller builds
  • Snapshot: Additional source snapshot directory is captured, allowing improved folder mapping behavior at runtime
  • Diagnostics: New Enable snapshot diagnostic logging option simplifies troubleshooting of snapshot issues

Turbo VM Updates

This VM update includes numerous performance and compatibility improvements, including:

  • Compatibility with the Windows 10 April 2018 release
  • Support for SQL Server Management Studio 2017SQL Server Management Studio 2016, and certain versions of SAP GUI
  • Improved performance for large executables/DLLs, including Microsoft Power BI
  • Client upgraded to Microsoft .NET Framework 4.6.2
  • Improved handling of side-by-side assemblies, manifests, and policy files in containers
  • Improved support for print spooling
  • Improved handling of directories mounted to containers with the --mountflag

Bug Fixes

This update includes fixes for the following issues:

  • Studio crashes when encountering the Windows Security dialog on Windows 10
  • Non-default file source path is incorrectly reverted to its default value after building the project
  • The snapshot process fails to complete when a badly formed or invalid registry key is encountered
  • Registry values that are full paths are not captured correctly by the snapshot process
  • The trimUACManifest and subsystem VM settings are not exported correctly when opening an SVM image and saving the configuration
  • Studio fails to build application when Active Directory settings are defined
  • The upgrade dialog opens the wrong web page
  • Studio unnecessarily asks for Turbo.net Hub credentials when building an SVM image with dependencies

  • Snapshot process fails to complete if a registry value name contains a newline character.
  • Application crashes when invalid parameters are passed to the RegisterClassEx function.
  • Application crashes when launched from a virtual application on Windows 10 Creators 1709.
  • Application may crash on some environments when launched from a network share due to memory corruption.
  • Snapshot process fails to complete for CorelDRAW X7 because of a bad shortcut link.

  • Improved! New isolation rules are applied when using the Template wizard to build ISV Application EXEs and Layers for Turbo Portal Server.

Bug Fixes

This update includes fixes for the following issues:

  • Turbo Studio fails to communicate with the Turbo.net Hub when the Turbo Client has been logged in a Turbo Hub Server.
  • The mailto: protocol does not get captured correctly in a snapshot configuration.
  • Outputs are built with an incorrect file icon if a startup file is not defined in the configuration.
  • Turbo Studio ma fail to profile an application properly.
  • Turbo Studio may fail to harvest using the Microsoft Office 2010 recipe.
  • Turbo XStudio fails to import MSI installer files.

Turbo Studio is an easy-to-use graphical editing tool for creating and editing Turbo container environments.

The latest version of Turbo Studio includes direct integration with the Turbo.net Hub, an installer based wizard alternative to snapshots, the ability to create portable container (single EXE) outputs, new subscription-based licensing, as well as support for the latest Windows operating systems.

New and Improved

This update includes the following new features and improvements:

  • New! Studio 17 directly integrates with the Turbo.net Hub. Templates and import wizards are automatically updated with continuously updated Hub content.
  • New! New Portable Applications (.exe) output mode generates portable containers with Turbo Client embedded, all in a single EXE.
  • New! Create applications by installing the application (MSI or EXE) into a container console. This alternative to the snapshot process does not require a clean operating system and does not dirty up the host filesystem or registry.
  • New! Support added for Windows 10 “Redstone 2” pre-release versions.
  • Studio available in MSI format and scriptable legacy XStudio command-line tool.
  • Ability to configure the Minimum OS Requirement for images.

Bug Fixes

This update includes fixes for the following issues:

  • Projects containing dependencies on the Turbo.hub Hub fail to build.
  • Containerized ProgIds are not fully isolated.
  • Renaming a folder incorrectly fails with a message that the resource is used by another process.
  • Failure to deinitialize and flush streams may cause missing file writes in specific scenarios.
  • Virtualized applications can crash if started from multiple paths.
  • Product version is not set correctly when the metadata field is set to inherit from the startup file.
  • Trailing spaces are trimmed incorrectly for file paths with arguments.
  • The command-line XStudio.exe tool does not recognize some encodings for the license file.
  • An error may occur pushing a XAPPL configuration with a service to the local repository or the Turbo.net Hub.
  • Many user interface fixes and improvements.

Getting Turbo Studio 17

Turbo Studio 17 is available for download at turbo.net/studio/download.

Any Turbo.net user with a Pro subscription can use Turbo Studio 17 by signing in with their account. Studio may be used in a limited fashion by Free users for evaluation purposes.

The ISV upgrade to Turbo Studio 17 is available for free to all licensed users of previous versions of Studio on active maintenance. For commercial users of previous versions, a new license key is available from the account management page of your Turbo.net account.
